Jazz is an energetic, exciting and exhilarating form of dance designed to help students develop strong technique as well as a unique individual style of performance. Jazz incorporates strength, balance, flexibility, dynamic jumps, turns, high energy music and stylization exercises. Jazz dancers will focus on developing isolations, progressions, improvisation work, and personal performance within combinations.
In addition to dance technique jazz dance teaches self expression, confidence, teamwork, musicality, and increased endurance.

For fall of 2020 BW CAS Dance is offering a project learning based, hybrid model of learning. Our hybrid classes will all be working toward a dance showcase project. For more information on our hybrid learning classes please visit our dance homepage.
Jazz will be in a hybrid format that includes in person instruction three weeks (9/17, 10/22, 11/19) and virtual instruction the remaing 7 weeks. Virtual instruction will be presented in a pre-taped format. Students will be able to access, and participate in, their virtual instruction at any time throughout the week. Both in person and virtual instruction will include all aspects of a dance class including warmup, technique, and chroeography.
Jazz students will also have the opportunity to learn about the showcase they are helping to create. Students will be introduced to all aspects of performance including stage directions, dance walls and corners, stage makeup, theatre etiquette, lighting design, and sound design.
Females: any color and style leotard, black or tan jazz shoes, optional dance shorts (NO athletic shorts, must be dance specific shorts) or dance leggings
Males: any solid color t-shirt or tank top, black dance shorts, black jazz shoes
