Dress Code
Specific dress code guidelines are included in the links below. In general, form-fitting clothing is best for us to assist you with positioning so dancers can improve. If you are having difficulty selecting comfortable dance clothes for any reason, please reach out to Miss Heather directly (hdennen@bw.edu) to reach an agreeable solution. ALL dance teachers will be informed of our arrangement to ensure everyone is on board with the expectations.
All dance classes require that long hair be neatly secured away from the face. Hair should be in a ponytail or bun during all dance class times. Please use multiple hair ties, styling products, and bobby pins to ensure hair is secured tightly and will not need to be fixed during class time.
Specific dress code requirements for each class are listed below:
Creative movement students should wear comfortable, easy-to-move-in, athletic-style attire. All Creative Movements students need ballet shoes (any color) for class.
Option 1:
- Any color/style leotard. Leotards may have an attached skirt and/or shorts if the dancer desires.
- Dance tights in either pink or flesh-toned colors.
- Full-sole leather ballet shoes in either pink or flesh-toned colors to match tights.
Option 2:
- Any color, fitted athletic/dance shorts
- Any solid color t-shirt or tank
- Full sole leather ballet shoes in either black or flesh-toned colors
Option 1:
- Any color/style leotard. Leotards may have an attached skirt and/or shorts if the dancer desires.
- Dance tights in either pink or flesh-toned colors
- Full sole leather ballet shoes in either pink or flesh-toned colors to match tights
- Tie tap shoes in black
Option 2:
- Any color, fitted athletic/dance shorts
- Any solid color t-shirt or tank
- Full sole leather ballet shoes in either black or flesh-toned colors
- Tie tap shoes in black
Option 1:
- Any color/style leotard. Leotards may have attached shorts if the dancer desires. ABSOLUTELY NO tutus or dance skirts.
- Bare legs OR convertible dance tights in either pink or flesh-toned colors. Convertible tights allow students to pull tights up to their ankles and be barefoot for acro portion of class. Tights option is perfect for students in back to back classes.
Option 2:
- Any color, fitted athletic/dance shorts
- Any solid color t-shirt or tank
Option 1:
- Any color/style leotard or sports bra
- Spandex-style dance shorts or leggings. ABSOLUTELY NO baggy pants, track pants, basketball shorts, loose-fitting shorts, or sweatpants.
Option 2:
- Any color, fitted athletic/dance shorts.
- Any solid color t-shirt or tank
Option 1:
- Any color/style leotard. ABSOLUTELY NO tutus, shorts or dance skirts.
- Dance tights in either pink or flesh-toned colors.
- Ballet 1 & 2: full sole leather ballet shoes in either pink or flesh-toned colors to match tights. Ballet 3 and higher: split sole canvas ballet shoes in either pink or flesh-toned colors to match tights
Option 2:
- Any color, fitted athletic/dance shorts
- Any solid color t-shirt or tank
- Ballet 1 & 2 full sole leather ballet shoes in either black or flesh-toned colors. Ballet 3 and higher split sole canvas ballet shoes in either black or flesh-toned colors.
Option 1:
- Any color/style leotard or sports bra
- Spandex-style dance shorts or leggings. ABSOLUTELY NO baggy pants, track pants, basketball shorts, loose-fitting shorts, or sweatpants.
- BlochSox in matching flesh tones
Option 2:
- Any color, fitted athletic/dance shorts.
- Any solid color t-shirt or tank
- BlochSox in matching flesh tones
- Comfortable, easy-to-move-in athletic attire. ABSOLUTELY NO jeans or dresses.
- Clean tennis shoes of any brand/style. Shoes should be worn exclusively for dance classes. Students should change into their class shoes once they are in the CAS building. Shoes that are dirty and/or have been worn outside will not be permitted on the dance floors.

- Spandex-style dance shorts or leggings. ABSOLUTELY NO baggy pants, track pants, basketball shorts, loose-fitting shorts, or sweatpants.
- Slip-on flesh-colored jazz shoes
Option 2:
- Any color, fitted athletic/dance shorts.
- Any solid color t-shirt or tank
- Slip-on flesh toned jazz shoes
Option 1:
- Any color/style leotard or sports bra
- Spandex-style dance shorts or leggings. ABSOLUTELY NO baggy pants, track pants, basketball shorts, loose-fitting shorts, or sweatpants.
- Flesh toned slip on jazz shoes
- Black tie tap shoes
Option 2:
- Any color, fitted athletic/dance shorts.
- Any solid color t-shirt or tank
- Flesh toned slip on jazz shoes
- Black tie tap shoes
Option 1:
- Any color/style leotard, fitted crop top, or sports bra. ABSOLUTELY NO t-shirts, tanks, or baggy tops. (Please note that a leotard must be worn for ballet classes)
- Spandex-style dance shorts or leggings. ABSOLUTELY NO baggy pants, track pants, basketball shorts, loose-fitting shorts, or sweatpants. (Please note that pants will not be permitted in ballet classes)
- Slip-on flesh-colored jazz shoes
- BlochSox in a flesh tone
- Split sole canvas ballet shoes in pink or flesh tones

Adults should wear comfortable, easy to move in, athletic attire.
Adult Ballet requires ballet shoes any color.
Adult Tap requires tap shoes any color or style.
Adult Ballroom requires jazz shoes or jazz sneakers.
