2023-2024 Dance Recital Information

The Most Magical Show on Earth

Saturday, May 18, 2024, 7:00 p.m.

The CAS Dance 2024 recital will be titled “The Most Magical Show On Earth” with all the recital dances relating to all things Disney! This theme will include music inspired by the parks, inspired by the magic and joy of the Disney legacy, and music from favorite movies and tv shows. The recital will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the Kleist Center for Arts and Drama on the Baldwin Wallace Campus. The dance faculty is looking to creating a magical and joyful experience for the dancers and audience!

Please note that all full-season dance classes (with the exception of Creative Movement) participate in the CAS Dance Recital.

Please see below for an overview of information about recital.

FAMILY BALANCES

Just a friendly reminder that your family dance balance needs to be paid in full prior to the recital. Any student without a $0 balance for this season will not be eligible to participate in the recital. Please log in to your UltraCamp account to ensure that your balance is up to date.

Please note that any summer program registrations DO NOT need to be paid to keep recital eligibility.

If anyone needs any help with their balance or has any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to me directly.

ATTENDANCE

Attendance over the next few months is very important. We want all of our dancers to feel confident for their big performance. We understand that there will be illness, school concerts etc. that dancers may need to miss for, but we ask that every family prioritize dance attendance as often as they can.

If a student has an extreme number of absences, it will be at the dance instructors discretion if that student is able to participate in the show.

COSTUME DISTRIBUTION

Dance Costumes will be distributed during dance classes April 29 – May 4, 2024

Dance instructors will ensure your child’s dance costume fits appropriately before they leave class during distribution week. Dance costumes are not made to fit like play clothes. Please trust your instructor on the fit of the costume as they have the best interest of your dancer at heart.

Once costumes are sent home, they are your responsibility. Please take excellent care of the costumes. Under no circumstances should costumes be worn prior to the recital. We cannot get replacement costumes for any dancer.

UNDERGARMENTS, TIGHTS, AND SHOES

All students should wear flesh-toned undergarments for dress rehearsal and recital. Students are welcome to wear a flesh-toned leotard under their costumes for extra coverage and/or ease of changing if they prefer.

Ballet students will need dance tights for recital. These tights can be either pink or flesh-toned and should match your dancer’s ballet shoe color.

Dancers in non-ballet classes may choose to wear flesh-toned dance tights if they feel more comfortable. Tights are not required of non-ballet students.

Any student wearing tights must wear dance-specific tights. I recommend Capezio and Body Wrappers as my personal favorite brands, but any dance-specific brand is fine. Footsteps Dancewear in North Olmsted is the CAS recommended location for your dancewear needs.

All students will need to have their assigned class shoes for recital. These are the shoes dancers have had for the entire dance season. If your dancer’s shoes still fit, there is no need to buy new shoes.

HAIR AND MAKEUP

Stage lights will wash out the facial features of the performers, so we ask that all dancers wear stage make-up to contour and enhance their features. We ask that dancers use neutral color eye shadows, eyeliner, blush, and bold colors on lips, but as each individual’s skin tone is different, so should their make up choices. False lashes for older dancers are encouraged. Once the instructors see the dancers on stage under lights, we might ask you to modify individually as needed.

We ask that all hair be neatly secured away from your face for performance. We love the individuality of each of our students and celebrate the different hair lengths, textures, bangs, and styles our students have. With this in mind we are letting each dancer choose their own hair style as long as it is tightly secured away from their face and neck. Please secure hair neatly using products such as gel, hairspray, and/or mousse to ensure styles stay through the entire performance. Multiple hair ties, in a color matching the dancers hair, are advisable to ensure styles stay in place throughout the show.

LOCATION

The Most Magical Show on Earth dance recital, tech rehearsal, dress rehearsal, and the after recital reception will take place in the lovely Kleist Center for Art and Drama located on the Baldwin Wallace University campus.

The Kleist Center for Art and Drama is located at 95 E Bagley Road, Berea, OH, 44017.

Please use the doors facing Beech Street to enter and exit for all rehearsals and shows.

TECH REHEARSAL

Tech rehearsals are a way for students to rehearse with their instructors on stage. Dancers will work on entering and exiting the stage, spacing on the stage, and how it will feel to dance in a new environment.

For tech rehearsals, dancers should arrive 10 minutes prior to their scheduled start time. This will allow dancers to change their shoes and be ready to go by the time their stage time begins. This stage time is vital for dancers. Please do not be late.

For tech rehearsal, dancers can wear their regular dance clothes. Costumes, hair and makeup are not necessary for tech rehearsal.

Parents and outside observers will not be allowed in the auditorium during tech rehearsal. Adults must leave the building after dropping their dancer off and return at the end of their dancer’s stage time.

DRESS REHEARSAL

Dress rehearsals are a way for dancers to experience the recital the way it will run on show day. Dress rehearsal will also allow dancers to watch the recital, as they will not be able to on the day of the show.

Dancers are required to have hair and makeup done with costumes on for dress rehearsal. Dancers should look and feel exactly as they will on show day. Please have your dancer arrive at the venue dressed and ready to go in their first question. The show order will be released prior to tech week.

Parents and outside observers will not be allowed in the auditorium during rehearsal. Adults must leave the building after dropping their dancer off and return at the end of their dancer’s stage time.

Since so many dancers will be arriving at the same time for dress rehearsal, one(1) parent per dancer will need to sign in any dancer under age 12 and then sign them out of dress rehearsal. The same adult must sign the dancer in and out. Dancers under age 12 will not be permitted to leave dress rehearsal until they are signed out. There will be no exceptions to this rule.

We will work our hardest to keep Dress Rehearsal running on time, please make sure your dancer is dressed and ready to go by 5:00 p.m. You should not just be arriving at 5 p.m. At 5:00 we should be able to start the run of show!

RECITAL

The Most Magical Show on Earth Recital begins at 7:00 p.m. The show will run about 90 minutes and will be immediately followed by a small reception to celebrate the dancers.

Recital will be such an exciting day for our students! Please make sure students are well-rested and well-fed coming to recital. We want our dancers to be at their best!

One (1) parent per dancer will need to sign dancers under age 12 in and out of the backstage area for dance recital. The same adult must sign the dancer in and out.

Please have family and friends wait in the lobby to greet your dancer and only send the one adult to the backstage area for sign out. It will be very crowded, and we want to get our students back with their families as quickly and efficiently as possible. Cutting down on backstage traffic will help the CAS staff achieve this goal.

Please have your dancer arrive for recital dressed and ready to go. Students will be supervised by CAS staff and faculty during their time backstage. They will be well taken care of and fully supervised the entire show. NO parents will be allowed backstage during the recital.

Please pack small, silent, not messy activities for your dancer to do while waiting backstage for their time to dance. Some good examples of activities to send are books, small coloring books, a doll or action figure, etc. Please do not send your dancer with expensive toys, toys that make noise, or toys that make a mess.
